Parliamentary Candidacy

Leader of Folkestyret

In 2022, Susanne Heart founded and built the Folkestyret organization, based on 10 fundamental democratic principles. The organization facilitated independent Folkestyret candidate lists in five municipalities and four counties during the 2023 municipal and county elections (Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Tønsberg, Porsanger, Akershus, Vestland, Rogaland, and Vestfold). Among the candidates on the Oslo list was the well-known public figure Mia Gundersen. FOLKESTYRET has announced that it will not participate in the 2025 parliamentary elections, instead focusing on strengthening democracy outside of party politics.

Political Leadership in Rogaland

Susanne Heart played a key role in governing Rogaland as part of the ruling coalition. She served as:

✔ Deputy Chair of the Regional, Cultural, and Business Committee

✔ Deputy Chair of the Regional Research Fund Rogaland (RFF)

✔ Chair of the Water Region Committee in Rogaland

✔ Member of the Steering Group for the Regional Climate Adaptation Plan
✔ Member of the Steering Group for the Regional Food Strategy

✔ Representative in the North Sea Commission’s Energy & Climate Group

Heart left The Green Party (MDG) in the spring of 2022 and continued as a free and independent elected representative in her positions.

Media and Public Advocacy

✔ On January 11, 2021, in her op-ed “Media Must Wake Up” in Dagbladet, she criticized the media’s role as the public watchdog, particularly regarding the events at Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021.

✔ On July 2, 2021, she wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Erna Solberg, urging a pause in mass COVID-19 vaccinations until more safety data was available. The letter sparked extensive media coverage and political backlash, with health professionals and political colleagues widely criticizing her stance. She referenced a scientific study that was initially withdrawn but later republished.

✔ On December 14, 2022, Heart submitted an interpellation in Rogaland County Council, urging the Norwegian Parliament (Stortinget) to initiate an open debate on vaccine safety, based on independent and evidence-based data. The speech and heated debate that followed were archived by Rogaland County Municipality and received significant national and international attention. Her claims remain unchallenged by concrete data.

✔ On October 19, 2023, she participated in NRK’s Debatten with host Fredrik Solvang, discussing whether the World Health Organization (WHO) should be granted greater authority over Norwegian citizens’ health decisions. She argued against such a transfer of power, emphasizing the importance of national sovereignty in health policies, which she saw as critical to protecting individual freedoms and rights.

Stavanger Politics

✔ Elected Representative in Stavanger City Council (2015-2019) for MDG

✔ Member of the Municipal Finance Committee

✔ Representative for Stavanger in the Lyse Corporate Assembly

✔ Deputy Board Member for IVAR IKS and IVAR Næring AS

✔ Chair of the Supervisory Board for Stavanger’s Allotment Gardens

In 2018, Heart challenged the democratic system in her op-ed "Politics in the Land of Happiness" in Stavanger Aftenblad. She later launched the Ethical Democracy initiative, gathering cross-party political support nationwide.

Parliamentary Candidacy

✔ Stortinget Candidate for The Green Party (MDG) in 2017 and 2021
